LYSAGHT^® 360 SEAM^®

Balancing concept, design and durability proved a challenge for establishing an iconic representation for the Jabatan Audit Negara (JAN) in Terengganu. Helming from a state with a rich architectural culture that celebrates skilled craftmanship with intricate design, it was only natural that the building should reflect its heritage.

Completed in 2018 and inspired by the state’s ancestry, JAN was bestowed with a classic vision of Terengganu, incorporating a roofing method known as “Pemeleh”, or gable boards. The prominent and classic sharp roof, exhibiting the building’s unique personality while strengthened by the use of LYSAGHT^® 360 SEAM^®.

From an aerial view, the roof showcases a skylight located at the heart of the building, designed to provide natural illumination and warmth with the sunlight, creating a comfortable work environment for JAN’s staff.

The aesthetics and functionality of the roof does not hinder the durability of the roof structure as it considers the factor of Terengganu’s natural geographical location, which is prone to seasonal monsoons. Coastal weather remains an important factor when developing the architectural design, which placed the roof as a main focus.

JAN’s design of a wide and exposed roof would make it vulnerable to weather. Besides the heavy downpour and strong winds from the monsoon, there was also the worry of corrosion brought upon by marine weather and salty winds. With the use of LYSAGHT^® 360 SEAM^® in COLORBOND^® steel, the roof was able to maintain strong durability as it also encompasses strong anti-corrosive properties powerful enough to withstand the salty coastal air.

Encompassing strength and beauty, JAN stands tall and proud as a building icon in Terengganu.
